As the liner notes indicate on the lyrics page, I was reading The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire when a melody kept playing in my head that fit the words perfectly. I added a strumming part with my own words about jet fighters, and we had a song.
This whole song is in the key of D-minor, a very plaintive sounding key. I like the strumming parts of the chorus because of the chops.
