Miss Ashley II

Miss Ashley II being worked on in the pits at Reno, September 1998

Miss Ashley II being worked on in the pits in , the second year Gary Levitz raced her at Reno. Man, she was sweet. Her Learjet wing and horizontal tail gave her a distinctive look banking around the pylons, much different from stock Mustang wings. She was officially known as a North American / Rogers P-51R. Her Rolls Royce Griffon engine gave her a distinctive sound, too. She sounded like she was purring, compared to the smaller Rolls Royce Merlins screaming in the Mustangs.
