Message of song:
How it was written:
Originally the lyrics were a sonnet, then I started singing them one day “riding the guitar while playing the bicycle” down Utah Street in Fairfield (Solano County, California) on my way back from breakfast at Denny's restaurant. It turned out to be the key of D. The second verse (“Your eyes…” etc.) was written two years later, while hiking up steep mountainsides above timberline in Kings Canyon National Park. Singing these words helped me get to the top of the next ridge.
The picking of the notes of the chord matches the melody of the music. The first and third parts of the chorus have an interesting syncopated part, D to A.
